Let’s get started.

Can you get lip filler while pregnant?

Short answer: Theoretically, maybe.

Long answer: No, it’s not recommended.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) generally advises against elective cosmetic procedures during pregnancy.

Although hyaluronic acid fillers are usually deemed safe for injection into the skin, lip filler treatment during pregnancy is not recommended. One of the reasons is that fillers often contain lignocaine, which is an anesthetic that can cause allergic reactions in some individuals.

Moreover, there is a theoretical risk of hypersensitivity or infection during pregnancy, which is why it’s best to err on the side of caution.

How long do lip fillers last?

The longevity of fillers differs for everyone, but it can vary from 6 months to 1 year. It depends on various factors, including lifestyle and body metabolism.

What are the recommended post-treatment instructions?

  • DO avoid alcohol, aspirin, St John’s Wort, and oral Vitamin E.
  • DO avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as Advil (Ibuprofen), in the 24 hours before the treatment and after, as they may promote the risk of bruising and bleeding in the injection area.
  • DON’T apply pressure or touch the treated area for 6 hours after the procedure. The area can then be gently washed with a cleanser and water.
  • DON’T scrub the area vigorously, exfoliate or receive facial treatment in the area for 72 hours.

You will also be given more specific instructions based on your medical history following your treatment.
